About the Artist
K. Peterson Simpson has been sewing since she was barely tall enough to reach the pedals. She shares a love of fabrics and design with her Mom Pauline and her 2 sisters Donna and Paula. She received her degree in Fashion Design from the American College in Atlanta, Ga. With her extensive experience prior to attending college, she spent much of the time teaching her fellow students the how-to of sewing the fashions they designed. During and after college, she directed fashion shows and even now, is a volunteer for a group where she directs models that include the who’s who of the local Tampa Bay/ Clearwater area.
Before and during college, she was fortunate to be apprenticed for several years with Lynn Ferris in Atlanta where she learned felting and costume design, which she loves. Since then she has continued to design and sew primarily for friends and family until she was joined by her husband to make her incredible creations available to other like minded individualists. She doesn’t want a fashion factory, with cookie cutter, mass produced designs. Her creations are each one, works of art, personally created from her love of fashion and design.
She is a beautiful, spirited and talented lady who designs every piece herself and puts a little of her personality into each one. Her “Fashions for the Spirit” are for individuals who like to dance to the beat of their own drum. As you can probably see from the photos of her work, her intuitive use of color and textures gives her unique fashions life and attitude. We hope that you will find a design fitting your personality that helps you express your own individuality.
Some artists “live to create” but Karen “creates to live“. For her, if she isn’t creating, she isn’t really living. Not just her art, but her family and friends all benefit from her seemingly endless creative spirit and willingness to share it with others. What a beautiful philosophy to live by. And for me, I am a very happy recipient of it on a daily basis.
